Happy Easter!

Having completed the vigil at the tomb, we go out, bearers of the cross, those carrying banners, icons, the Gospel, the choir, the Priest and the faithful carrying  candles ablaze.  Circling the church (3 times typically – unless the weather is really bad), we sing that Christ is risen from the dead.  Coming to the front of the church, a small service is completed by the priest, wherein he calls out, Christ is Risen, and the faithful respond, Indeed He is risen.

Luckily enough, with the joyful celebration, came a very spring-like afternoon.  Just in time for the egg hunt.  As we got out of church the evening before – or should I say morning – at around 3:15 AM, we set the time of the egg hunt for 2 PM.

Chomping at the bit, the kids only had to wait a few minutes.  And then they went crazy, running all over looking for enough eggs to win them a prize.

And look!  Who can that be with a cute, new haircut??  Might it be Alena!

I will probably be falling asleep early.  For some reason, my husband thought that I needed to get up at 8:30 AM, so he thoughtfully brought me a cup of coffee and woke me up.  At my age, 41/2 hours of sleep just doesn’t cut it anymore.

Good Friday

I think today will be really busy, so I am going to do a quick post now, before we are rolling too quickly through the day.  Today is Good Friday.  Which means we will have a service at 2 PM and one at 6 PM.  The church should be pretty full today at 2, as there is no school today.  I will be making some bread and baked salmon to take over to my mother’s for dinner.  I also need to check to see if the store has any baby’s breath to fill out the flower arrangements at the church.

Rolling back into our old routine, SP came over for breakfast.  He chose to eat one of those cereals he hardly ever gets because they are so disgusting…Lucky Charms.

Breakfast as usual.

And guess who is not letting him far from her sight?  You guessed it – Teva.

Now we just need it to be a teensy bit warmer outside for the Easter egg hunt on Sunday!

We’re Home!

Just a quick update. Kristine and I went to the community potluck last night and enjoyed the company and the wide variety of food.  I think we ate a little too much.  It was wonderful.  Vera Pelkey’s fish pie was delicious.  April made some great corn muffins (we got to swipe a few for our breakfast this morning) and a beautiful angel food cake with salmonberry glaze.  Plus, many other dishes.  Our offering was salmon spread with crackers, and tangerines and apples.  Needless to say, our tummies and taste buds were quite satisfied.

We got a call a 8:30 this morning from Demetri Tcheripanoff, Sr. that Penair was planning to have a plane over before 10.  We hauled our luggage down to the boardwalk, Demetri picked it up with the four wheeler.  I must say, Kristine must have a really lop-sided idea about flying in the Goose.  Both the trip over and the trip back were on flawless days.  The water was glassy smooth again!  We landed in Dutch Harbor (yes, the water) and had Kristine home by 10:30 to see Maxman, Joe, and Mamma for Easter.

Great trip.  Wonderful people in Akutan.  Good to be home.  So far my hubbie is happy!
