My Dad said, according to my husband….

According to my husband, in the highly competitive contest to guess the departure date and time of Kristine and Sharon from Akutan, my Dad said that there is always the Tustemena.  It will arrive in Akutan on April 18!!!  Thanks, Dad.  Kristine and I were happy to hear that, because that would mean that we would be back in time to record Mom’s story before you guys head out for vacation!  Ha!

When Kristine and I started working for StoryCorps, after training, Kristine came home with the equipment and I stayed in Anchorage to record at AFN.  Kristine’s mother was in Unalaska so Kristine and her mother, Carol, were the first Unalaska StoryCorps conversation.

Kristine and I feel that it is appropriate that my mother be the last Unalaska StoryCorps conversation.  So Mom, get your stories ready.  We’ve  got our listening ears on!

Time is NOT standing still.

I have always listened to my mother.  Well, not!  But as I have gotten older and wiser, I try to value her opinion whenever I can.  She has been saying for years, ” Wait until you are forty, and see how fast time goes by.”  Then it was “Wait until  you are fifty….”  Well, let me tell you, time is just whipping by me like I was standing still.  I can’t believe it is almost April.  30 more days to record your conversations.  I can’t believe it is almost Easter.  Didn’t we just go through the holidays?

This past week has been just as busy as the previous ones.  I participated in many of the offerings, but – can you believe it – I didn’t take my camera!!  I should be fired from this blog site.

To appease the blog god, I am offering up a couple of shots from last week…one that we don’t usually get around here.  And let me caution all you young whipper snappers.  Slow down and smell the bog candles.  Life is too short.

First week of Lent…no time to post!

This week has been our first week of Lent, so we have been having church each evening at 6PM and, on several occasions, during the morning also.  This has left me crunched for time.

Father Jonah will be traveling to Atka for the second week of Lent.  I don’t want to sound sacreligious, but that will give my legs a rest!  (We do stand during our services.)  And some time to get out walking and taking pictures again!
